A few days ago a teenage boy has collapsed at my son’s school after taking a party drug known as a “legal high”. He became seriously ill on the school premises and was immediately taken to hospital. Fortunately he has been discharged from hospital without further complications. You hear about drugs all the time but somehow you don't think it can happen near you. My son is a sensible teenager and he’s got reasonable friends but the fear now is awake in me as you never know what can happens outside the safe home walls.
Despite it being illegal to sell these drugs for human consumption in Britain, they can be sold legally if advertised as plant food, and are available in shops and on the internet. They can be bought from a minimum amount of £3!!! And everybody can buy it!
After a very brief research on the web I’ve found that this substance - commonly known as Meow, bubbles, M-CAT or 4-MMC - has effects similar to that of amphetamines and ecstasy. You don’t know how your body is going to respond to them and they could have extremely serious effects on your heart and blood pressure. Clearly it is a very quick way to make yourself very poorly. It’s very usual to want to experiment with new experiences and new things when you are learning about life and going through your teenage years, but the bottom line is that drugs could kill you.
Our local PM said would write to the Government committee looking into “legal highs” to inform them about the case at this school and urge them to make it illegal to sell the drugs.
But why has it to come this before someone takes action? Please be aware of all of this and warn your own children against it.

Thank god the boy is all right. I heard a report about this on Radio 1 the other day. Worrying times indeed. xx
My two daughters are grown now but I have two small grand children, two boys, 1 and 3 years old. I am afraid that when they are grown up it will be as bad or worse. In schools in the US drugs are prevalent. The problem is that adolescents want to be part of the “in” crowd and will experiment. Families have to be aware of all this and keep their kids informed of the terrible consequences. Thank you for coming by my blog and leaving a comment.
Legal highs, XTC - you are right to highlight those recreational drugs that are very dangerous to health and life.
Drugs and alcohol are our kids escapes from their inadequacy to cope with life, simple ordinary life, these days. There was a time when drugs meant rebellion against the system or the social conventions, alcohol was an escape from serious problems. Not nowadays. You know, in my job, I meet hundreds of different teenagers year after year and they tell about their Saturday nights out or their parties... they can't enjoy themselves without a "little help". They admit it, they tell you without any fear or shame. It's a new fashion,a new silly fashion, to follow which they risk their lives and health.
And I don't even mention what my teenage sons tell me about what they see and hear around them ... Just like you, I'm terribly sorry and worried.
Hugs. MG.
there is so much out there that I am clueless over. So scarey that they have such easy access to these things. It's good you are doing something about it.
Very scary! I never heard of that drug before but do know you can buy any type of drug you want on the internet.
so scarey what is out there, much legal, & too many non legal things, our kids can get their hands on.
hope you're having a good week.
Drugs and alcohol abuse nowadays is really scary. Should I be glad I have no kids?
Have a lovely day! xoxoxox
On a much happier note, did you know that Hokey Pokey was a slang term for ice cream here, specifically for the ice cream sold by street vendors, or "hokey-pokey" men? Is it only here in Scotland or also in England? :)
Hum... I will google it! ;) I am so curious! Since the Haity tragedy I am trying to think of happy thing. :P
Hugs!!
I wrote you a message on my blog but in case you do not see it, here is what I said – (I took some courage and tried to remember some Italian): “Benvenuti al mio blog. Sono sempre felice di accogliere amici bloggers. I shall go and visit your blog e spero torni e farmi visita. Excuse my Italian as I have not spoken it for quite a while. I appreciate your visit.”
Hi there-thanks for sharing this and highlighting the perils of this, its important to know the facts, thank you.
Have a happy weekend! Foggy here.
My goodness, shows we have to keep on our toes doesn't it. Take care lovely K x
