Fear

A few days ago a teenage boy has collapsed at my son’s school after taking a party drug known as a “legal high”. He became seriously ill on the school premises and was immediately taken to hospital. Fortunately he has been discharged from hospital without further complications. You hear about drugs all the time but somehow you don't think it can happen near you. My son is a sensible teenager and he’s got reasonable friends but the fear now is awake in me as you never know what can happens outside the safe home walls.

Despite it being illegal to sell these drugs for human consumption in Britain, they can be sold legally if advertised as plant food, and are available in shops and on the internet. They can be bought from a minimum amount of £3!!! And everybody can buy it!

After a very brief research on the web I’ve found that this substance - commonly known as Meow, bubbles, M-CAT or 4-MMC - has effects similar to that of amphetamines and ecstasy. You don’t know how your body is going to respond to them and they could have extremely serious effects on your heart and blood pressure. Clearly it is a very quick way to make yourself very poorly. It’s very usual to want to experiment with new experiences and new things when you are learning about life and going through your teenage years, but the bottom line is that drugs could kill you.

Our local PM said would write to the Government committee looking into “legal highs” to inform them about the case at this school and urge them to make it illegal to sell the drugs.
But why has it to come this before someone takes action? Please be aware of all of this and warn your own children against it.
