For a few weeks we had a little hedgehog in the garden. He was so sweet and lovely. We looked after him until a few days ago we found a colony of little hedgehogs in a neighbourhood’s garden we thought he belongs to so hopefully he is now reunited with his brothers and sisters. My daughter called him “Spillo” - which means “pin” in English – and she was totally devoted to him. Big tears when she had to part from him, of course!

An appeal to all drivers! Please be careful when you drive and don’t run over these little wonderful animals.
Apart from being so cute, hedgehogs are a powerful form of pest control. Did you know that a single hedgehog can keep an average garden free of pests by eating up to 200 grams of insects each night? They also keep away grass snakes, snails, rats and similar unwanted “guests”.

Oh my goodness, that is the cutest critter. I've never seen a hedgehog in person. I don't blame your daughter for having a hard time giving him/her up. I'd want to keep it in a pocket and take it out to play once in awhile.

How adorable! I don't know if we have those here. Are they the same as porcupines? I've certainly never seen one in the wild.
Never seen one of them from this near! They are so cute!!! Lovely post and...beautiful hands!
Crazy cute! I am in love. This is the cutest thing I have seen all day. Please don't tell Lily I said that.:-))
he is precious!!!

oh gosh he's so adorable! Almost no hedgehogs in Edinburgh now....
Wow - I have never seen one so close up before. Sooooo cute.
Oh, in pictures he looks so cute! I have seen them up close, and I don't remember them being so dang sweet looking.
We don't have hedgies in the big city :(.

He's so adorable! I think I would have had to keep him for a pet. LOL
They're really magical little creatures, aren't they? In fact, there are a lot of ancient superstitutions about them!
lovable little face.
Please tell to your daughter I am totally sad as she is. He's too cute :-)
I recently saw similar photos in Melanie's Chateaubriant blog — so it is a hedgehog! It is sooo cute! I wonder if it can survive of climate. Anything that eats bugs is a friend of mine!
Oops, I meant "our" climate.
I'm dying of cuteness here. What an absolutely adorable little creature. I think I would of shed a few tears too, seeing him go. (Hugs)Indigo
Awwwwwwwwwww, we have never seen one so little and so close. Just adorable, Antonella!! :) And so perfect it doesn't seem real! The second pic, is particular, is wonderful! Are you using it as desktop for your computer? :)
Happy weekend! Hugs!
He is adorable, we used to have them from time to time as kids, but I haven't seen one in years. Can't wait to show my kids these pictures.
I don't think I have ever seen anything so cute!
Now this is the most adorable little hedgehog I have ever seen!!! I had Elena to run and see the photos and she marvelled and notice any little detail! Look at his nose! Look at his little fee! And the ears!
What a cute little thing. Ciao Spillo!
Hi again, just wanted to let you know that I've linked this sweetest little hedgehog to my post for tomorrow. Hope you don't mind... he was just so adorable, I had to share him.
OH MY... that is ADORABLE... I wouldn't want to give it up either! I must show this post to my youngest... he will oooh and aah... thanks for sharing!
That might be the cutest little critter I've ever seen! Found you on the Magic Onion and so glad I did!
Jamie :)
There are oohs and aahs in my house right now ;-) This is gorgeous!! It makes me look with new, fonder eyes upon the hedgehog snuffling about in our own garden.
I too found you through the wonderful weblog The Magic Onion and am so glad I followed her link!
He is so very very cute, I'm glad he's been reunited with his brothers and sisters though.
