The Purple Man of York

Although The Purple Man of York had been featured before in other blogs (Ruby's York Daily Photo and the The JollyGreenP Images of York too) I could not resist to post this photo in his festive “theme”, ie. carrying Christmas gift whilst biking swept away by the wind of York. For £1 donation I was “allowed” to take this shot and even found out his name, Michael. He’s been entertaining in Stonegate for quite a while now and, although he changes his poses and themes every now and then, his main features are always his bike and the colour purple.

I do not think he can make a living out of his daily donations in the streets of York, but he is always nice and polite and jokes with kids and adults alike and has become a part of York tourist attractions!

Here is Michael the Purple Man in his summer version.

That's so great! There are similar street performers in cities here--we've seen many in both New Orleans and San Francisco. The Purple Man seems to have perfected his craft. Beautifully done!

Hee hee! I like these 'living statues.' Michael seems to take this more seriously than most. That wind-blown scarf and coat in the second image is genius!

Great purple man shot!! I wonder what he looks like out of his purple make up?!! We'd never know him, that's for sure. Bet it takes ages washing that off every night, although he must have got it down to a fine art by now.

@Thanks, guys, for your comments, I'm sure The Purple Man will be proud of all this free advertising. I think next time he will let me take a photo for free!!!

He is a real York landmark! I've been visiting for the past couple of years, and see him regularly, always in the same place.

(Just as a random aside, we bought our wedding rings from a gallery just up the road behind him!)

@Jackie: I know that I might sound nosy, but is your hubby working in York by chance? Yoru connections with York seem to strong to be just casual...
