It's Up!

Our Christmas Tree is finally up! It took me and my daughter half a day last Saturday but we managed to sort it out. It is usually down to my daughter and my dad to put up the Christmas Tree together, but this year my mum and dad are coming over from Italy a bit later than usual so Vicky and I decided to do it ourselves. To tell the truth, she did most of the work herself as she remembered exactly what her granddad did in the past. Our tree is a synthetic one and a bit “strange” as you had to insert the single branches one by one inside the main post and all the layers have different length. Anyway my only task was to pass on the branches to her and towards the end send her out of the room whilst I was trying to untangles the lights and set them up (not an easy task, I can assure you!). I did so because I knew I was going to swear badly and I don’t want that poor 9-year old to listen to my profanities…

Vicky even managed to set up the Nativity scene on her own, and although I tried to convince her that Baby Jesus arrives on Christmas night and the Three Kings on the 6h January, she decided to put all the figurines at the same time.
This is the extent of our Christmas decorations for this year!

Xmas tag

Thanks to Sugar of SUGAR SHACK for the beautiful tag!

The nativity scene with absolutely everyone in it is very British! Apart from in churches, I think most people who have a nativity would set it up right from the start with all the various characters.

@Jackie: Hi Jackie, As I said in my entry, in Italy we put Baby Jesus in the crib on Xmas Eve and the 3 Kings arrive the evening of the 5th Jan or the morning of the 6th. Don't think it really matters. The meaning of the Nativity is what counts. Ciao. A.

your dtr did a great job.
as for the nativity, i always put it all out at the same time, & enjoyed it from thanksgiving till the week following new years. lol
i've had a couple trees like you said, where you had to insert individual branches, different lengths, it was quite a chore!
see you got the animation working on the tag :).
have a good rest of week.
huggies...

Untangling the lights and setting them up is one of the most annoying bits of the Christmas season... :-)
Che bella che è Vicky!!!
Carissima, grazie per tutti i messaggini stupendi che mi lasci! Come vorrei conoscerti! Ma senti, non c'è una tua fotina qui, persa nel blog?

That is so cute, to decorate the tree with your daughter! She and I share the same view about the Nativity — I always put everyone and everything on display already. Otherwise, I'm liable to forget when the day comes!

It helps if you store the lights carefully too, like looping them carefully around a used paper towel tube. So next year, she can hold the tube for you (or your dad) as you string the tree. No more profanities during this holy season! :D

Hi, thanks for your question. I'm not 100% sure, but the Glasgow Winterfest website says 16th Nov to 11th January, so I'm presuming the lights are on until then. Certainly the lights in my yesterday's photo (the net of lights) are on much longer, after all the other Christmas lights come down - you'll be able to see them well into February, maybe even March. They're the nicest ones :)

You both did a wonderful job. I very well know those moments of wanting to curse through the Christmas light disaster. Wishing you a bright day in the merriest of seasons. (Hugs)Indigo

Your tree looks great Antonella, you and your daughter have done an excellent job of decorating it. I had an Italian customer in the garden centre the other day and she was thrilled to find we had just one Nativety scene ornament left AND it was half price. She told me that in Italy everyone has one at Christmas.

Love Sandra xxxx

@Everybody: Thanks for your comments about the Xmas tree. My Vicky is so proud! The tree is a bit wobbly but it looks great when the lights are on. Have a nice weekend. A.
