I did not want to finish the year without showing some photos of festive Italy. Unfortunately I haven’t been there since last summer but I’ve “stolen” photos from my friends and acquaintances who have actually shot them personally. As I said previously, I come from Northern Italy, an area which is often left out by tourists and even Italy lovers, because it is erroneously considered “industrial” or “not holiday-like”. Instead, the North of Italy has got everything the South has and even more …We have the sunshine and the snow, the scenery and the culture, the industries and the music, the seaside and the mountains, the food and the wine (to be honest, the best wines in Italy!), the hills and the lakes….And here are only some samples of the Christmas lights ….Enjoy!

This is Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, Milan, as seen by my best friend Giusy...

....And Milan again with the huge Christmas tree in Piazza del Duomo (always by Giusy)

And the dreamy Venice.....

Via XX Settembre, Genoa, by Roberto

And the Arena of Verona under the Xmas Comet ...
Visit Valeria's blog for great photos of Verona at VERONA DAILY PHOTO
And last but not least our fantastic Turin....

And Torino again, Monte dei Cappuccini, shot by the great Fabrizio at Torino Daily Photo

A Confectionery Shop Window in Milan (by Giusy).....for the pleasure of your eyes....

awesome pics!!!
ty so much for sharing the beauty most of us will never see in person.
huggies...
I know the names of all the cities you mentioned, but had no idea they were all in the north. Thank you for the geography lesson (for me) and gathering all these wonderful photos together. I'm sure you must get really homesick sometimes. I hope you get to visit Italy often.
While all of the pictures are beautiful, the one I was drawn to....was of course the sweets! :)
How lovely Antonella, thank you for sharing your native Italy with us. :o)
Love sandra xxxx
What lovely pictures - you must really miss those beautiful places.
I was really happy to find out that Glasgow is twinned with Torino, so I was able to do a photo swap with Fabrizio for our September 1st theme day.
What lush, gorgeous and travel lust inducing photographs. Really lovely!!
What a brilliant idea, Antonella! Thank you for including my photo and link ;-)You are right about the beauty of northern Italy, but still....
I think the best part of it is your Piemonte, although I 've never been there yet. Have a nice day! Ciao
Ciao! Thanks for visiting my blog - I thought I would return the favour, and glad I did. You have a lovely blog there lady!
I am in agree with you about our country. There are not so great differences among regions, from south and north. The photo are very nice. Thank you, happy new year.
Enzo
p.s. excuse me for my little english but you understand all i wont to tell.
@Enzo: Grazie Enzo per i tuoi commenti. Il tuo inglese va benissimo. Thanks Enzo for your comments. Your English is perfectly understandable. Happy New Year to you as well.
@notSupermum: Thank for popping in. I've got a 9yrs old "lady" as well, so I suppose we've got lots in common!
@Sandra: Thanks, Sandra, for visiting again. I wish a happy new year!
@Amy: For me too, cake and sweets are the most appealing. Hope your kids feel better now!
@Hilda: I sometimes feel homesick, but during the years I've been missing people rather than places...I love living in York anyway.
@Sugar: I like "travelling" with the help of other people's photos, stories and experiences. This is sometimes better than the "Real" travels as you only get the best part of it!
@Valeria: Thanks Valeria. I love all of Italy, but a lot of people do not know the North.
@La Belette Rouge: I love photos. Unfortunately I cannot travel around much and my digital camera is not working any more. So I sometimes take photos with my mobile phone or I "steal" them from my friends...I love the way you can write, my compliments.
@Jackie: Thanks for reminding me that Glasgow and Turin are twinned. I had forgotten. Many moons ago when I was still at Uni in Turin a theatre group came from Glasgow to perform "The Merchant of Venice" in the original language. It was shocking as it was set during WWII and with Nazi costumes but very intense and interesting!
Thankyou for sharing these lovely pictures my cousins husband Egon came from Milan ...love Jan xx
I'm very honoured to be part of this really nice collection but, believe me, I'm absolutely not "great" :-)
You have shown some of may favourite blog potos here. All the best for 2009
@Jan: Thanks, as you see Milan is not as bad as it is sometimes described...
@Fabrizio: ...but Turin is better, isn't it? And do not be too modest. Your are great! Ciao.
@babooshka: Thanks for popping in. Happy New Year to you as well.
Wonderful selection of photos, I really like northern italy, Turin and Ventimiglia, Dolceaqua and Sanremo. Happy new Year!
@Crafty Green Poet: I did not know you knew the North of Italy, but I've noticed that you can speak a bit of Italian. Well done!
