Teaser Tuesday

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
- Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My teasers today:

...And who thought it was a good idea to rent bicycles to Italian adolescent language students? If hell did exist, it would be governed by a committee of fifteen-year-old Italian boys on bikes....
[ from page 161 - "Case Histories" by Kate Atkinson]

All the elements are in this book: humor, pathos, suspense, tragedy, emotion, irony and a small touch of paranormal. Kate Atkison at her best! Not to be missed.

I've read Case Histories, very good! And I just finished reading WHEN WILL THERE BE GOOD NEWS (also by Kate Atkinson) also very good, if a bit about the less happy side of things.

I hope you don't mind my asking here, but I am looking for novels (not non-fiction)set in foreign countries, especially about the life of Americans and Europeans who live in countries other than their own.

With so many readers here, I wonder if some of you have come across such novels. Here's such a book about an Italian woman living in Kenya:

Rules of the Wild by Francesca Marciano. Here's a teaser:

"I stop by the side of the road before honking at my gate and meticulously begin to remove the price tags from the espresso cups, the carafe and the South African wine. The money I have spent on these items equals the monthly salary of both Wilson the cook and Alice the maid."

My own blog tells the stories of my own expat life in various countries, so I'm looking for kindred souls in the books of other writers.

I am reading "From Here to there:Analytic Love;Analytic Process" and I will share one sentence: "When challenging patients say:"I never knew what my mother was thinking for feeling,"they frequently mean that they still can't read how other people think or feel and that they still cannot believe that their own feelings are real or legitimate."

I don't imagine anyone wants to add this book to their reading list. But I am enjoying it very much.
