The Eagle Has Landed!

On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first astronauts to land on the Moon. After a day spent exploring the Moon's surface, the two members of the Apollo 11 mission returned to Earth. It has been estimated that 500 million people across the world watched the video broadcast of the Moon landing. I was only very little at the time and we didn’t even own a TV set but I remember clearly those first black & white images on our neighbors’ TV and those foreign words (to me at least at the time) that Armstrong pronounced when he first set foot on the Moon. Since then the Moon has become a great passion of mine and will always be.

Where were you that day (if you are at least as old as I am) and what can you still remember?

At 4 I don't think I remember this. Still a wonderous accomplishment during that day and age. (Hugs)Indigo

I was only about 7 weeks old, so don't remember it very much, I think I was too interested in important things like sleeping and drinking milk!

Actually it's about this time that my sister was conceived, so I wonder if my mum and dad decided to celebrate the moon landings that way ? ...... :)

I was still living at home with my parents and we watched it on the old black and white t.v. I think we thought it was going to change everything, not sure, but one wonders why nothing more ever came of it.

I was really too young to remember that 20 July! But I perfectly remember I read Jane Harris's THE OBSERVATIONS last spring and it was good. Very entertaining.I wrote something in my blog about it. Hope you'll like it too!

My 19 year old daughter told me today that she doesn't believe the Apollo ever landed on the moon!

Have a good week!

It was before I was born (well, 18 months to be exact!). I can only claim this for so long, so I will flaunt it while I can!

BTW I loved going through the pictures of your home town. Thank you for sharing.

@All the lovely ladies: Thanks to all of you for your comments. You've managed to make me feel utterly old!

@Kia: Sovereign is the third installment of Sansom's Shardlake saga. He's a lawyer at the time of Henry VIII and always ends up getting involved in solving crimes. This one is set partly in York. The first two ones are Dissolution and Dark Fire. Beautifully written and interesting, especially for someone like me who's a keen fan of Tudor history!

And, why do you feel utterly old? You are lucky you have seen such a great event! :D
