Earth Hour.
Tonight March 28th 2009, at 8.30 pm (wherever you are), WWF is encouraging us all to turn our lights off for an Earth Hour (so 20:30 to 21:30), in protest against the inaction of governments on the issue of climate change. And to show how easy it is to do something about it.
Around 50 million people took part last year. In 2009, WWF want this to be 1 billion.
Just ONE small thing can make a BIG difference.
Let’s try it, shall we?

Ours was last night. We came from a college graduation and were late, but we turned off everything anyway. Except for one fan though because it was so hot and humid.
yes we took part and so did a lot of people and institutions in Edinburgh
I am so disappointed, I missed it...!
@Hilda: Great. I cannot imagine such a lovely warm weather. We switched off the heating as well (it was very cold!) and wrapped up in blanket surrounded by candles. it was a sort of adventure...The kids love it!
@CGP: In my small village the street lights were on but York was partly switched off. Ciao.
@Valeria: Do not worry, I'm sure they'll do it again next year. And don't forget to switch off the lights when you go out of a room!!!
Ciao Antonella, happy Monday! :) I agree, just 60 mins can make a BIG difference! :)
And thanks for the "lovely" *blush*
Hope it sunny down there. It's cold and rainy here and I can't stand the wind anymore.
My in-laws will be here tomorrow, so I better run to the grocery store and start cleaning. Hugs, talk later.
Oh lucky I was out so no lights on at our place
I didn't see this until too late - I will have to wait until next year.
We forgot, and Sally was very disppointed! She was looking forward to an hour of candles, so we've agreed to have our own 'earth hour' next week. Hope it counts.
Rats, I missed it. It is a lovely idea. It would be nice if we did it an hour each week instead of just once a year.
I'm so sorry I missed this! What a great way to have one voice.
@Kia: Ciao bella, hope you’re having a great time with your in-laws and they are not too cold! It is rather warm here today!
@Mo: Most people did not know about it, but they were out so the lights were off anyway!
@Jane: Does not need to be exactly on the 28th …It is just symbolic…
@The Dotterel: Yes, My daughter and I have decided we can do it once a month. Don’t know about the male members of our family though!
@La Belette: I agree. We’ll try to do it once a month. It’s nice to sit together with candles on to talk and read…Some quality time at last!
@Mother Mother: Yes, we felt we were part of something! I think the kids enjoyed it and learnt something.
