Yorkshire Wonderland

It’s been snowing on and off since New Year’s Eve and the result is a beautiful snowy landscape that makes everything look better. Unfortunately the conditions of the roads are not very good and we can only hope that it gets better by Monday when work will start seriously and everybody is going to go back to his/her duties. In our small estate nobody comes to grit or plough the snow away, we don't even have one of those yellow sand/grid container on the corner of the roads. Writing the 100th letter to the responsible council won't help either as they simply don't have enough funds to buy grit for every road here around. Sad reality! For the moment let's indulge in the beautiful Winter Wonderland from the window sipping a hot cup of cocoa and watching DVDs! And let's postpone to Monday our fight with slippery roads and frozen pavements…

Snow is here!

Here we go yet again! A few inches of snow and the end result is chaos. Roads are gridlocked, gritter lorries cannot get to treat the icy roads, there are numerous road accidents because few drivers can adapt to these “new and strange conditions”. This is the situation in York and North Yorkshire after yesterday's snowfall.

I love the snow and it is nice to see it around but not if it takes you hours to get out of your village to get to work, when you slip on a pavement that nobody has thought of gritting because it is not a "priority number one" area or when the schools are closed and you have to arrange children care. Other European countries can face better these "extreme weather" conditions, why cannot we in Britain cope?

Snowy Italy

I bet most people never think it is possible to see snow in Italy, at least away from the Alps, so that’s why I’ve decided to post these photos that I’ve just received from Italy. My little green town on the hills in Northern Italy is now covered with a thick blanket of soft white snow. At lunchtime they already had 30 cm of snow, but it is still snowing. End of November is a bit early for snow, but the summer and the autumn have been so dry that snow is a blessing now for all the farmers and vine-growers.

This is my town in Italy under the snow. As you can see, people don't mind facing the white slippery stuff!!!

And this is our river ...

Snow can be a nuisance, that’s true, especially if you need to travel, but I love it. Everything looks better and more beautiful in white, even the dullest places!!!

So let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...

(A big thankyou and a huge hug to my friend Giusy who sent me the photos! What would I do without her!!!???)
